March 23rd was our annual MCA Etiquette Banquet. Christin and I were invited, I had a Filet (cooked medium of course), it was really good. The evening was rather uneventful until a very generous friend of mine approached with an offer I couldn't refuse. Since his beloved Aggies were bounced by Memphis the night before, he had no need for 2 tickets to the regional final in San Antonio.
It has always been a dream of mine to see an NCAA tournament game as I think it is the best sports event all year. Since there were 2 tickets I needed a partner in crime to pull off this trip because the game was tomorrow afternoon. I didn't exactly have to twist my buddy Lee Dunn's arm and we agreed to meet up at 8 AM for the 5 hour drive.
Aside from the basketball game, which Ohio State won pretty convincingly, there were a few amusing side notes. I was waiting on a European Mount from this deer I killed in December. Well the taxidermist was on the way to San Antonio so I called another friend to get his number. Well, my deer had already been picked up and was on its way to Midland, but my friend asked me if I'd pick up his turkey. Well I assumed it would be just the Turkey tail fan or maybe a head. However, Lee and I never would have guessed that we had just picked up a 3rd passenger.
So with a full size Turkey mount in the back of a Honda Accord we headed out to the game. Lee went to Texas A&M and those aggies are always raving about Freebird's burritos. Like a good aggie, Lee had mapquested the location of the nearest Freebird's establishment and that was apparently the only lunch option. Lee, good call my friend.

We got there early and watched the warmups, highlighted by Greg Oden sleepwalking to the court, tossing a handful of trash-range baby hooks, then returning to the locker room to finish his nap. Every one else on both teams were trying to rip the rims off the goals. However, when the ball was tipped, Oden dominated that game offensively and defensively. I'll always be able to say I saw him in college.
Of course Lee and I are also avid outdoorsman, if you consider pop-up campers with A/C and golfing to be “outdoorsy.” So of course we had to hit Bass Pro shop, although secretly wishing it was a Cabela's instead - aren't we thankful. I talked way too much for an introvert on this trip, but man was it fun.

Also when I did get my mount back, the boys really liked it! Can't wait to take them hunting.
