Spring cleaning and new developments

This week was spent beginning to emerge from the worst winter since we've been in Midland. I know some of our friends up north, especially our Alaska family, are getting a good chuckle from that sentence. For us, having weeks where it was below freezing at night was suprising. Having such a cold winter meant that the boys spent lots less time outside than all of us wanted them to. It's been a huge relief having afternoons in the 70s this week. One of those afternoons was spent with a borrowed hedge clipper performing the annual bush murder. We have a boxwood hedge in front of the house that could legitimately hold my weight if I laid down on it. It is one old, hairy, tough hedge, and it needs to be taken down about a foot every year. By late spring it looks healthy and happy.

In other developments, Mason has proven to be quite the mountaineer recently. Christin called me at work to inform me that Mason woke her up knocking on his door wanting to get out of his room! So at just under 2 years old, he is pulling a peter pan out of his crib. Carter doesn't show much interest in learning jailbreaking skills from his brother which is a huge relief. It hasn't been a huge issue yet, he has only done it twice, but it is a little unsettling. For 2 years we have been able to put the boys down, breathe a sigh of relief, and let them play for a while before drifting off to sleep. With Mason's ability to jump ship, I confess to a little more apprehension when it's bedtime.

What about you parents out there? Anyone have any words of wisdom for switching kids from cribs to bigger kid beds? When did you do it? How'd it go? We have a plan going forward, it would just be great to hear some war stories.
